The South Australia Option

European settlement in South Australia began in 1836.

Adelaide, the capital, was a planned city, and retains much of its early architecture. The Adelaide Festival, held every two years, is an international cultural event.

South Australia is the source of many fine wines. The wine-producing areas, including the Barossa Valley, are major tourist attractions.

In the past 12 months South Australia has become known for it's proactive drive to attract Skilled Migrants to the state. They offer a number of initiatives for Skilled and Business Migrants, which the other states do not.

The entire state of South Australia, including the capital Adelaide is a designated regional and low population growth area.

South Australia's State Territory Nomination Independent (STNI) Program

The state of South Australia is only one of 3 states that participate in the STNI program.

To be eligible for STNI into South Australia you must be successfully assessed by the appropriate designated skills assessing authority in an occupation off the current South Australian Occupations Nomination list. To view the latest list please visit the following link:- http://www.immigration.sa.gov.au/site/Skilled_Visa_stni_osnl.php

If your occupation does not feature on this list, however, it does feature on the Skilled Occupation List SOL, you still may be eligible for a Skilled Independent Regional (SIR) visa - see below.

Skilled Independent Regional (SIR)

South Australia is the only state that will sponsor individuals under the Skilled Independent Regional (SIR) program no matter their occupation off the SOL. All other states that participate in the SIR program have specific lists of occupations.

If you can be successfully assessed in an occupation off the SOL and can achieve either 110 or 115 points then you could consider SIR for entry into South Australia.

Please take our point test to see if you qualify.

The South Australian Government will also sponsor their SIR visa holders under State Territory independent Nomination (STNI) for permanent residency after a 2-year period, no matter the occupation off the SOL. This initiative is again unique to South Australia.

For sponsorship to be granted by the South Australian Government for the permanent visa under STNI after holding an SIR for 2 years, the applicant and their family unit will need to meet the following conditions:
  • Demonstrate that they have lived anywhere in South Australia for at least two years; and
  • The principal applicant (or their partner) has been employed (including self-employment) full time (ie 30 or more hours per week), for at least 12 months; and
  • Intend to continue to live in South Australia for at least the next two years.
  • Plus meet any outstanding DIMIA criteria

What our clients say:

My advice to people who are thinking about settling in South Australia.....the climate is more settled....not humid in summer, but can get cold in winter, the climate is more like Spain than we realised!

....there are plenty of good wineries, beaches, fishing, scenic lookouts, walks and so on.... the city....small but pretty good, there are lots of museums and special interest things to look at, I wouldn't say that it is sleepy, but I would compare it as London to Brighton, in the UK.....London being Sydney and Adelaide being Brighton....I have visitied other states and although I like them and would not say no at giving it a go at living in them, I think I prefer Adelaide for a more relaxed lifestyle, it is more picnics and days at the beach....

You get bigger houses for your money than anywhere else, as an example, someone we knew owned a 3 bedroom semi in the UK ....sold it....and bought a 4 bedroom, study ensuite, WIR, BIR's, family room, air conditioning, large entertainment area for AUD$270,000.00 in the southern suburbs, furnished it, decorated it, and still had $10,000.00 to put into a rainy day fund, and abosolutely no mortgage!

The city is beautiful, botanical gardens, parklands historical buildings.... there are a lot of Poms, and plenty of British shops that sell imported produce, such as lollies, crisps, drinks, sausages, pork pies, bacon ! and the list goes on.... all in all I love Adelaide, the sun shines, and life feels great.
