How to get that job!

Does your resume effectively sell you? Each time you apply for a job your resume or curriculum vitae is the advertisement of you. You know you have the required skills for the job, you WANT the job and your experience is excellent.

Does your resume explain all of this clearly, succinctly and intelligently?

Resume Tips from the Resume Wizard

1. Sell your skills, experience and knowledge

Your resume is like an advertisement of you, and you are the product. You need to give examples and explain why you are the best choice for the employer. You should always sell your talents and abilities effectively, but dont warning don't over exaggerate or stretch your experience too far as you will be accountable at interview for anything you make claims against in your resume.

2. Use Examples and Be Truthful

You need to clearly explain how you have the skills, ability and experience to do the job.

For example by stating: "I have good managerial skills and get work done well and on time", will not be effective in selling your skills.

However if you state: "I have effectively managed a team of 15 sales staff for the past 2 years" this will sell your experience, point to your skill as a manager and get the prospective employer thinking about your abilities as a suitable 'skill match' to their job.

If you have an effective resume you will most likely be offered an interview. Ensure that you claim nothing in your resume that you cannot substantiate when at an interview.

3. Presentation, Presentation, Presentation

The content of your resume is the most important thing, however, the appearance of your resume can also make an impact and can be a reason for why you are considered or not for a position.

You need to ensure that your resume is neat, clear and succinct, if it is too 'busy' this may cause a prospective employer to pass over your resume for another more attractive and clear version, not particularly fair but true in today's job market.
