Australian Points Calculator for Skilled Migration

If you apply to migrate to Australia under the Skilled�Independent category or the Skilled�Sponsored category, you will be assessed against a points test.

Points are awarded for:

Occupation
Age
English language ability
Specific work experience
Australian work experience
Australian qualifications
Regional Study
Partner Skills
State or Territory nomination
Designated Area Sponsorship (sponsored by an Australian relative living in a designated area - only available to provisional visa applicants)
Designated Language

Pass mark and pool mark

You must score sufficient points to reach the pass mark. If your score below the pass mark but equal to or above the pool mark, your application will be held in reserve (in the pool) for up to 2�years after assessment. If the pass mark is lowered at any time in that 2�year period, and your score is equal to or higher than the new pass mark, your application will be processed further. If not, your application would be refused at the end of the 2�year period.

SKILL To apply for an Australian Skilled Migration visa either: The occupation you nominate must be on the current Skilled Occupation List (SOL) - Schedule 3. You need to nominate a skill that fits your skills and qualifications. OR if your occupation is not on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) - Schedule 3 If you can nominate an occupation on the current State and Territory Skilled Occupation List (SOL) (schedule 4). You may be able to obtain sponsorship from a State or Territory if the occupation is on their State Migration Plan. You receive the points allocated for your nominated occupation after the relevant assessment authority for your nominated skilled occupation determines that your skills are suitable.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ABILITY	Points
Proficient English To demonstrate you have proficient English you must: Score a minimum of 7.0 in the English Language Testing System (IELTS) in each of the four test components or; Score a B level or greater in an Occupational English Test (OET) exam, where you sat an OET exam as part of their skills assessment	25
Threshold English To demonstrate you have competent English you must show that you: Score a minimum of IELS 6.0 in each of the four test components or Hold a passport from the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, the United States of America or the Republic of Ireland	15
SPECIFIC WORK EXPERIENCE	Points
To receive these points you must have work experience closely related to your nominated 60-point occupation for 3 of the last 4 years	10
To receive these points you must have work experience in any occupation on the Skilled Occupation List for 3 of the last 4 years	5
AUSTRALIAN WORK EXPERIENCE	Points
To receive these points you must have Australian work experience closely related to the nominated occupation for 1 of the last 4 years. Must have been working at least 20 hours per week in a paid position	10
To receive these points you must have undertaken a professional year closely related to nominated occupation specified by the Minister of Immigration. See following link for approved professional years: http://www.immi.gov.au	10
AUSTRALIAN QUALIFICATIONS	Points
To receive these points you must have completed and been awarded a Doctorate (minimum 2 years study), undertaken whilst in Australia	25
To receive these points you must have completed and been awarded a Master/Honours with undergraduate degree (minimum 3 years study), undertaken whilst in Australia	15
To receive these points you must have completed and been awarded a Degree/diploma/trade qualification (minimum 2 years study) undertaken whilst in Australia	5
OCCUPATION IN DEMAND - there are no longer any points awarded for occupation in demand
REGIONAL STUDY	Points

PARTNER SKILLS	Points
Points may be awarded if your spouse is also able to satisfy the basic requirements of age, English language ability, qualifications, nominated occupation and recent work experience and has obtained a suitable skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for their nominated occupation.	5
STATE OR TERRITORY NOMINATION	Points
To receive these points you must be nominated by a State or Territory government. DESIGNATED AREA SPONSORSHIP	Points
To receive these points an Australian relative living in a designated area (only available to provisional visa applicants) must sponsor you. The following family members are eligible sponsors (including adopted or step): Non dependant child Parent Brother or sister Niece or nephew Aunt or Uncle First cousin Grandparent The sponsor must be related to your or your spouse or interdependent partner. The sponsor must be at least 18 years of age and be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, who resides in a designated area and has done so for the 12 month before application. DESIGNATED LANGUAGE	Points

This point's calculator should be used as a guide only. The calculator gives you an indication of whether you will be eligible for migration under the Skilled Migration Program, it does not guarantee that you will succeed in an application for migration to Australia. There are other criteria that an applicant must meet as well as the points test. Migration Matters does not guarantee that you will eligible for any visa under the General Skilled Categories if you achieve the current pass mark by using this points test calculator.

WA state government releases state priority occupation list.

The Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development has released its state priority occupation list. The State priority occupation list is an annually produced list of jobs that are in high demand or considered industry-critical in Western Australia. The list will inform Western Australian workforce development planning, the skilled migration occupation list and the development of the State Training Plan, which guides the funding of training programs.
